The ability to understand the development of organizational strategy and the factors which influence its formation are of key importance for a professional manager and leader. The aim of Task 1 is to enable learners to evidence their understanding of the interrelationships between organizational strategy and functional and operational strategies and the approaches to developing organizational strategy which will have a positive impact on organizational outcomes.

 

TASK 1

You are required to write an account entitled:

 

‘The approaches to developing organizational strategies’

This account must make reference to an organization you know well or have researched. It must include well- chosen examples and the use of theory where relevant. The account must be presented in THREE (3) sections.

 

1a. The inter-relationship between organizational strategy and functional and operational strategies

To complete this section of the account you are required to critically assess the inter-relationship between organizational strategy and functional and operational strategies. (AC1.1)

 

1b. Factors which influence the development of organizational strategy

To complete this section of the account you are required to evaluate a minimum of FOUR (4) factors which have influenced the development of organizational strategy. (AC1.2)

To complete this section of the account you are required to critically appraise approaches to developing organizational strategy with reference to theory. (AC1.3)

DEVELOPING AND LEADING OPERATIONAL STRATEGY TO ACHIEVE A STRATEGIC AIM

It is essential for a professional manager and leader to know how to develop and lead an operational strategy to achieve strategic aim. The aim of Task 2 is to enable the professional manager and leader to evidence their ability to select the most appropriate process for developing operational strategy and gain stakeholder buy-in.

The following are examples of strategic aims which have been developed to support the completion of Task 2. The examples may be applied to an organisation of your choice (within the public, private or third sector). You may choose one or more as the basis of your response.
