Aim of assessment: The purpose of this assessment is to enable students to establish the link between the path physiology of disease, clinical manifestations and nursing interventions. Details: You are required to record yourself delivering an oral presentation. The presentation will answer the question below:

 

1. Explain in an oral presentation the underlying path physiology of ONE of the clinical manifestations of the case study (see assessment tab for case studies) (Learning outcomes 1, 2, 3, 4) AND Describe ONE high priority nursing intervention you would do to improve the patients clinical manifestation.

 

2. You will be required to select a case study (available under the assessment tab). The presentation time limit is 7 minutes. There is no word limit; the length of your presentation should be guided by time. If you exceed the time limit by more than 10% the marker will stop marking at 7 minutes and 42 seconds. Case study to be used: Module 8 Leukaemia Maddi Cook is a 11-year-old girl, admitted to the ward for chemotherapy management of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Maddi has been feeling unwell for the last couple of days with increasing lethargy, fever and breathlessness. Her observations are: Temperature: 38.4°C Pulse: 140 beats/minute BP: 90/55mmHg RR: 32 SaO2: 92% Skin: very pale, warm, ecchymosis on extremities and buttocks. Petechiae of mucous membranes in oral cavity. Her blood results reveal: White cell count 0.1 x109 /L Haemoglobin 65g/L Platelets 45 X 109/L A Red Zone criteria (MET call) has been made. A provisional diagnosis of Neutropenic Sepsis is made and Maddi is being transferred to the High Dependency Unit for monitoring and IV antibiotics.
